Flea allergy
Q: Hi, i have a 65 pound mixed breed, female 9 years old. we live in a rural community in florida and we treat her with frontline for fleas and ticks. she is constantly chewing and biting at herself and our vet said that she was allergic to fleas, gave her a perscription of cortizone i believe and said we should treat the yard. we can't treat the yard it's too big. is there some kind of medicine i can give her to stop the itching and biting?
A: You could try oral benadryl at 50 mg two to three times daily; if no help within 5 days, then try chlortrimeton at 4 mg twice daily. if no help withi these, may need stronger med like low dose oral pred from your vet
