Frontline plus
Q: I purchased frontline plus about three weeks ago for my inside cats and applied it that night. they appearantly got fleas from the outside. since the treatment and having an exterminator treat the house, they are still scratching like crazy. i thought the frontline plus would help, but it doesn't seem to be. your suggestions are appreciated, susan
A: They might have residual allergies. could try oral chlorphenirmine at dose of 2 mg twice daily to see if helps. if not see vet for stronger meds

Allergies & water
Q: We have a 4 year old border collie with hip displasia and allergies. last year we put her on frontline and she developed joint pain after the second dose. she does not seem to get fleas, but ticks are a problem. we would use a tick collar except that she frequently plunges into water on our walks, which, i gather, renders them useless. what would you suggest?
A: Take a collar like preventic collar off before she swims or you could try different product like advantix

Fleas gone?
Q: I applied frontline flea & tick on my dogs 2 1/2 days ago. how long will it take befroe they stop itching? i have them contained in one area of the house, but don't know when it will be safe for them to be set free... thanks
A: They could be itching from other allergies. try antihistamine such as benadryl at dose of 1/2 to 1 mg per pound orally twice daily in addition to supplements prozyme and brite coat xs from 1800petmeds which can help long term

Tick eradication
Q: We have a two year old sheltie that is in the process of loosing her 2nd coat for summer. to complicate matters, she seems to have many ticks. we have seen no fleas and work at ridding the ticks with very little success. what do you recommend to help make her more comfortable. we have treated our yard with diazanon and have had a "tick alert" collar on her. in the past summers, that has been sufficient but not this year. thanks for your help. we live in southwest ok so the summers get quite hot and dry.
A: You should probably use a product such as frontline plus to help with tick control.

Best flea medication?
Q: I have a toy fox terrier who weighs 7 lbs. i was wondering what the best type of flea medication would be to use for him? he's inside most of the time and i don't like using the sticky flea medications we use now get all over our hands when you pet him. i was wondering if the program really works or if there's something else like it. i just wanted some advise about what type of flea control is the best method to follow. thanks!
A: The program works by preventing the hatching of the flea eggs. use frontline plus once a month. it is applied at the nape of the neck, and once dry, it should not feel sticky, if fact you should not know it's there.
