Skin parasite?
Q: I brought my dog to the vet many times to no avail. he was originally infested with fleas and ticks after the shelter. is it possible that he has a sking parasite that can't be seen? i do see very tiny black dots close to his skin in a few specific areas. also, i find something tiny occassionally protruding from his skin almost like a black head except that it has two tiny black dots at the end. it seems to hurt him. any ideas? would frontline cover everything? he has a flea collar. many thanks
A: It could be a parasite which can be diagnosed by skin scrape by your vet or skin biopsy, but i suspect allergies more likely which can not only be due to fleas, but also food or inhalent allergens which need different treatment

Heartworm/ flea & tick protection
Q: Lately i've heard a lot about frontline, k-9 and other such products including heartworm prevention products. starting with the long term effects with using some of these products. (causing seizures and kidney problems) could you please comment on such products and the health effect of using these product. please talk from a medical stand point not a advertising point. thank you for your time.
A: Any product including heartworm preventative or any of the insectisides for flea/tick contol can occasionallly cause side effectd in suscsepible allergic individuals. unfortunately, there is often not alot of data on long term effects many animals, but most seem o do fine

Q: I would like to know if you can use the frontline top spot for puppies and dogs (up to 22 lbs), on cats? we were told the same product is in both the frontline for dogs as in the one for cats.
A: Our advice is to always use the species-specific product.

Which is the best product for getting rid of ticks ?
Q: I have been using frontline on my rigdeback for about 4 or 5 months and the ticks keep showing up in my house. we never find more than one at a time so i am not concerned with an infestation in my house, but i was wondering if there is a better product specificly desgined for ticks. a follow-up question to this is, what is a good outdoor product i can use on my lawn ?
A: Since frontline plus is not a tick repellant, you will notice a tick from time to time that has not yet been killed. you may want to add a preventic collar to increase the protection. as for your lawn we recommend virbac outdoor spray concentrate.
